What is TubeMate
TubeMate is a multimedia app and video downloader developed by Devan Studio. As its name suggests, TubeMate primarily focuses on downloading videos from YouTube, but that doesn't mean TubeMate can only download videos from that website. As a matter of fact, TubeMate can boast that it supports video download from several websites including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and more. In addition to being a video downloader, TubeMate also has a built-in media player that doesn't just work for media that you have downloaded with it. Media files that you have saved in your device storage can be accessed and viewed with through TubeMate's media player.
The Download Process
Downloading with video downloaders has never been that complicated. The most common method of downloading is by getting the URL of the video you need and posting it to your video downloader. TubeMate makes the download process much simpler than that. Instead of having to use a third-party browser to get the URL of your video, you can just search for the video you want directly on the app.
TubeMate looks more like a web browser than a video downloader. There is an address bar at the top of the app where users can get or paste URLs similar to traditional web browsers. Users can browse the Internet with TubeMate just as they could if they were using mobile browsers such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Swiping right on the app will show you a list of bookmarked websites for easy access. That panel also has another tab with the user's browsing history which can quickly be deleted with a button at the bottom of the panel.
The big difference between TubeMate and these other browsers is that this app has a unique download button that automatically appears when it detects that a web page contains a video file. When users click on the download button, they will be prompted with video resolution options to choose from. Once they have chosen a resolution, the download will then begin shortly.
Users will be able to view their downloads by swiping left on the app. Doing so will show a panel with several tabs. One tab is for the user's download queue while another tab is for the user's playlist. The last two tabs are where users can view their music and video files saved in their device storage.
Internal Media Player Opinions
As mentioned above, TubeMate also comes with its very own media player that you can use to view your downloaded files. The media player itself is acceptable, but nothing to write home about. It plays your files decently well, and you can set it to rotate with the orientation of your phone or lock it in place. It has the basic media player controls you'd probably expect such as Shuffle and Repeat, but it doesn't have the complex features that dedicated media players such as VLC have.
One minor nitpick about the internal player's interface is that a playlist bar is located above the control bar. This means the controls take up almost half of your screen, making it difficult to watch videos while navigating or setting up the app.
Despite this, TubeMate's internal media player does its job reliably. Considering how most downloaders' internal players, if they have them at all, don't even bother with basic controls beyond being able to play the files, TubeMate's player is a massive improvement.
However good an app may be, it will still inevitably come some limitations. In terms of video downloading, TubeMate's biggest issue is that some video resolutions require a separate app to successfully download. TubeMate supports a wide range of video resolutions, but it struggles a bit in the higher ones. Additionally, you need the same separate converter app to download MP3 files.
There are also times when the downloader does not detect the correct media to download or fails to detect all of them. This mostly happens in pages from websites that the app doesn't officially support, however.
Even taking these limitations into consideration, no one can deny that TubeMate is a great option among video downloaders. It has a simple and easy process for downloading videos and it comes with a reliable internal player that you can also use as your default player. It's a well-rounded app that many people will appreciate.
